We had a chat with the founder of Sihles’ Brew. These are some of the things he had to shared with us:

Where were you born and raised?

I was born and raised in Durban, KZN.

Have you ever receive any training in your trade?

I pursued studies in coffee-making, where I obtained an International Barista Skill Certificate that is rated as a degree in coffee-making. I have also obtained training at the Pick ‘n Pay Academy, and I am currently furthering my studies at the Gordon Institute Of Business Science, University Of Pretoria.

Please provide us with a background of your past career trajectory, i.e first job, different positions you have been in.

My first job was as a part-time garner in KZN. After completing my Matric, I relocated to Gauteng to pursue my career in coffee. I first started as a Barista, that was in 2003 at CafÈ Galini in the Brightwater Commons Shopping Centre. I then worked for Pick ‘n Pay introducing coffee shops in stores. From there, I moved to Ciro Coffee Academy where I worked as a Barista trainer.

How did you start Sihles’ Brew? And what challenges have you experienced?

I started Sihle’s Brew because of the passion I have for coffee. Where I used to work there were a lot of limitations in relation to introducing my fresh ideas. One day I just decided to open my own business; and that is how Sihles’ Brew was born.

What do you consider your greatest achievements to date?

It would have to be making coffee for former Deputy President Kgalema Motlante in 2013. And the Sihle’s Brew product being listed at Fruit & Veg (Food lovers Market)

What inspired you to get into the coffee industry?

It was love and passion. I saw a gap in the industry.

Where to from here? What are your plans for the future?

I want to see my business grow and be the most powerful coffee brand in the Southern hemisphere and abroad. I want to take the next level of supplying major retailers and breaking foreign markets.
